the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.

OH it’s a lesbian and her enormous sunflower

I thought she had her arm around the shoulders of her wife, who was dressed as a plant monster for some reason

actually if german was more widely spoken die känguru chroniken would have a huge fandom and like one half of the fandom would ship mark-uwe kling and the kangaroo and the other half would be very upset about that and there would be callout posts and block lists and it would be an absolute nightmare but also hilarious

Men in Black (1997) dir. Barry Sonnenfeld

I use this scene to explain implicit bias to people. his first instinct is to assume the aliens are violent and the girl is innocent, but instead of acting on those assumptions he takes time to recognize his bias, look at the situation again, and then act.

I watched this with my dad when I was fairly young, and I remember thinking that this was why he got chosen; before he even really knew what was going on, he didn’t assume that aliens were dangerous monsters.

It goes even further. The Men in Black IMPLICITLY are pro-non-violent-aliens-living-among-humans.

Therefore Jay taking note of how each one seems menacing but notes the smaller details is exactly what the MiB are looking for. The other candidates fired at every nonhuman looking entity in the simulation.

Look closely and you’ll see the simulation is full of big teeth, dangerous looking aliens doing mundane tasks like crossing the street, preparing for a sneeze, hailing a taxi, getting a hot dog from a vendor.

The Men in Black SPECIFICALLY look for people who are perfect at sorting out what an actual problem is in a crowded situation. Zed must have been beaming on the inside. This man really WAS a perfect candidate.

I love pointing this out: the novelization confirms, yes, he was 100% right in his assessment there

Jay thought fast and acted fast, and his judgement was right.

I mean what is an eight-year-old doing out late at night with an armful of advanced textbooks? If she was holding some age-appropriate books … less dangerous. If she looks nervous about being out late at night … less dangerous. If she’s holding a shopping bad from a local business (convenience store, etc), less dangerous. But overall? sketchy as hell. But the other guys just went “little while girl with books, not a threat.”

normal people: i miss you

Henry Fox: should i tell you that when we’re apart, your body comes back to me in dreams? that when i sleep, i see you, the dip of your waist, the freckle above your hip, and when i wake up in the morning, it feels like i’ve been just with you, the phantom of your touch of your hand on the back of my neck fresh and not imagined? that i can feel your skin against mine, and it makes every bone in my body ache. that for a few moments, i can hold my breath and be back there with you, in a dream, in a thousand rooms, nowhere at all?

Dnd is a good game here’s an incomplete list of things my players have used disguise self to do:

1. turn into an npc they watched get dragged to hell in order to freak out another pc

2. turn into a villain while the villain is in the room in order to freak them out with their own face

3. Turn into a villain while the villain is in the room in order to confuse her goons

4. Turn into another pc in order to trick that pc’s mom

5. Turn into a different pc in order to confuse villains about their capabilities

Things they have not used disguise self to do:

1) disguise themselves
